Israel: You've Got a Friend in Me

Updated: Nov 3, 2023

The United States' support for Israel after a time of releasing fungible monies to Iran is disingenuous because it is known as a terrorist-sponsoring state and is known to have direct ties with Hamas. A full apology is due to Israel, and the continuation of goodwill towards our friend Israel is a must. There was once a time in the United States when the Evangelical base was influential enough to hold their governmental representation's feet to the fire on the doctrine of Israelology, but as the theologically founded (once sound seminaries') Ivy League schools secularized, so too has the doctrines that teach that "nations that want to be blessed by God should bless Israel." Harvard was once founded as a seminary designed with a "practical aim to educate the clergy [1] "and is now revolting openly in the streets with Ivy-trodden shoes and fresh visions of antisemitism in their head.

Putin has downgraded Israel to an enemy, [2] and seemingly, the whole world is turning as a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed towards Hamas's goal of total annihilation of Israel. How would you feel if the whole world suddenly turned on our blessed country's right to exist so that new alliances were forming to supplement that synergistic goal of total annihilation of the United States of America? As the saying goes, "You've got to fight for your right to party." [3] The United States has taken up arms to have its own right to rule itself by her given parties. Given the salvage terrorist attack on innocent women and children by Hamas, by way of invasion protruding into Israel's Sovereign territory on October 10th, 2023, and the designed hostage-taking situation that Hamas has initiated, as well as given that Hamas's whole organizational structure is designed and is foundationally rooted with their existence to totally annihilate Israel: shouldn't we the people of the United States of America (friend to Israel) at the very minimum be rooting for them?

We, the people, need to go back to our root reasons for supporting Israel: because it is right. One does not need to have a degree from a seminary or know all about the Abrahamic unconditional covenant or the promise God made to Abraham that his seed would bless the world or that there would be a blessing to any nation that blessed the Abrahamic seed nation Israel to realize that God obviously gave the title deed of the land to Israel, and people have been trying to take it from them ever since. Western Civilization has changed the definition of the word "good" from morally founded, intrinsically understood by all humans as from the heart of God, kind of "good" to just "good" as in useful or pragmatic as a working definition for the word "good." The devolution of politics today has rendered our political decision's critical questions about governing to the question of, "what is usefully expedient" instead of governing "what is the good as a moral compass."

We must support Israel just because it is right. As a Pastor, I would like to bring clarity to the evangelic vantage point as I see it. The theoretic theological framework of Dispensationalism was a central evangelical worldview when Israel became a nation. The nuances of this theology can be expressed in another time and place, but suffice to say that the Evangelical Christians, who made up much of the United States' influence in 1948, believed that Jesus would come back to earth and literally rule and reign physically from the Temple with the Jewish people in Jerusalem. This perspective drove the prospecting of Israel to be once again recognized as a nation. The other central evangelic deliberating point is that the Abrahamic covenant (Genesis 15) was sealed with a token offering by God and not Abraham (because he put Abraham to sleep), hence making it an unconditional covenant. This covenant is not only to Abraham but to every nation that would exist perpetually. A different theoretical theological framework called Replacement Theology exists in evangelical circles today that would teach that Christ fulfilled the Abrahamic Covenant and that the New Testament Christian has replaced Israel as the people of God. This logic supplants that Israel as a nation has no place in the end times events. While this framework has many variations, its proponents are struggling to give a clear statement of Israelogy. This segmented theologies' mist in the pulpits has created a fog in America's pews so that she can't even form a unified statement saying, "Radical terrorists should not invade Israel and that we are rooting for her." [4] Evangelist John Van Gelderen travels the United States regularly and sees this growing antisemitism as rooted in the Satanic, "Satan is against God, and therefore, Satan is anti-Christ. And since the Savior of the world and Messiah of Israel is "of the Jews," Satan then is antisemitic. This is the underlying reason behind historical and current examples of antisemitism." [5]

We must support Israel because it's not wrong. Friends root for friends. As documented in world history, Israel has often been the underdog and rarely has been the aggressor but has seemingly always held a target on their back saying, "Kick me." The opponents of Israel would claim that Israel has bewitched the world and that our rational society no longer needs to be scared of superstition. Still, I say the world, at times, has been bewitched into supporting the holocaust of this entire people group. You tell me which sounds more Satanic. Between total annihilation attempts as documented in the biblical book of Esther to the holocausts of Hitler's Third Reich, Israel has been a steady example of civility under the continuous threat of hostility.

We must support Israel because it's just right. We still believe in just war theory without appealing to the Bible, but because we know right when we see it. Even in the hypothetical scenario, if Israel were to attack the United States, unprovoked, with a ground assault invasion, most would understand that Abrahamic covenant or not, one has the God-given right to defend itself in just war theory. We need not ground our position of rooting for Israel in the Abrahamic covenant alone but that some things are right just because they are right. (No Jews or U.S. citizens were actually harmed in this hypothetical scenario.) The point is amply made, though, because the unprovoked attack isn't on the United States of America; it's on Israel. Just like there was confusion (chaos) for the antisemitic holocaustic decree issued by King Ahasuerus as documented in the biblical book of (Esther 3:8-15), so too has Hamas called for a day of rage [6] (chaos). Just like the tide turned and the people revolted against Haman's plot to destroy the Jews, so too I predict that Hamas' plot to destroy the Jews will turn on them, and they will be hung on the gallows of their own making. I don't know about you, but I am rooting for my friend, the nation of Israel, to be blessed and be a blessing because it is still right.
